General Election - 2010

12 May 2010

Congratulations to our Chair, Louise Ellman. Executive member Luciana Berger, Mike Gapes, Barry Gardiner, Fabian Hamilton, Margaret Hodge, Glenda Jackson, Ivan Lewis Dennis Macshane, John Mann and Stephen Twigg, on being elected to parliament ,and condolences to the others, featured in the pre election JLM website, who were unsuccessful.

Labour is now in opposition, facing a Conservative/Liberal coalition and the Jewish Labour Movement will be playing its part in determining the next Leader of the Labour Party. Free of any shackles of supporting another Party, Labour will be free to attack the government whenever they feel it appropriate and Labour policies need to be reviewed to take account of the new situation in parliament.

This new Tory/Lib government may not last a great length of time and Labour must be ready to defend its fundamental values, in the face of the horrendous financial restraints that will be imposed on us.

Labour supporters should be in good heart, our time out of government can be a time of renewal so that we emerge a stronger and more combative political force.
