Electing a National Executive Committee for 2016
2015 was an encouraging year for JLM. Just as the national Labour Party, JLM has had a big increase in our membership. With big events like the Labour Leadership debate held earlier this year, JLM has gone from strength to strength.
In order to keep up with the new level of interest in our Movement, and to make our decision making structures more effective, we’ve gone through a long process of reviewing how we work and coming up with new proposals.
These proposals have gone through a long process and have been recommended by our National Executive Committee for adoption. In order for this to happen, the NEC has called an Extraordinary General Meeting, to take place immediately before JLM’s AGM.
Election of Officers
Immediately following the EGM, we will go straight into the AGM. During this section of the meeting, we will receive reports from our officers, receive the year’s financial statement, and elect new officers for the forthcoming term.
If you would like more information, or are interested in standing the NEC, you will need to self-nominate by emailing the JLM Secretary at email@example.com no later than 12noon on the 28th of January.
You have the option of submitting a 300 word statement which will be collated into a candidate’s booklet and distributed before and at the meeting.
Nominations will only be reopened at the AGM if there are no self-nominations. Positions with only one nomination will be considered elected without opposition.
Contested elections will be determined by a secret ballot.
In the circumstance that the NEC’s proposed Rule Book is not adopted at the EGM, nominations for the National Officer positions will be carried over to their equivalent positions under the old JLM Constitution, and all nominations for other posts amalgamated into nominations for the NEC’s Block of 15.
Eligibility to take part
The Jewish Labour Movement is a membership organisation run by and for our members.
In order to take part in the AGM, you must be a subscribed and fully paid-up member of the Movement.
Please do make sure you give yourself enough time to get through security before the start of the meeting.
